Presentation: Bill Spady and Educational Programs

Tom Henry

Jigsaw discussion

Critical Discussions and Decisions:
After examining trends identified and changes suggested by Spady, discussion was centered on identifying programs that contain elements of a "continuous system of learning".  Teacher support came up as an issue, as did parent volunteerism and teachers spending more than one year with a group of students.  Another idea was to start with the future conditions of learners, then work backwards systematically. Other issues were discussed but not recorded and will be addressed again.

Presentation: Bill Daggett and Educational Programs

John Lehmann

Jigsaw discussion

Critical Discussions and Decisions:
After examining information from Daggett, discussion continued, with individuals adding discussion of the homework assignment.  Because conversations were small group and general, no documentation was taken.

Members open discussion: homework assignment

Proposed meeting dates:

  • Nov. 30
  • Dec. 9
  • Dec. 16
  • Jan. 6
Critical Discussions and Decisions:
All proposed meeting dates were agreed to, and the sample concensus framework was adopted, with the exception of mandatory attendance requirements.

Additional support documents were distributed, but due to materials not being collated, many received only the first page of some of the documents.  They will be printed again and offered at the next meeting.

Proposed Agenda items include:

  • Reproduction and discussion of written homework answers
  • More time to discuss educational programs in general
  • Possibility of breaking down to smaller work groups that could meet during the Winter Break.
