Introduction | |
The Educational Technology Task Group met several times from October, 1999 through March, 2000. We also exchanged numerous email communications in developing this set of recommendations for the Schools of the Future Committee. Developing long-range recommendations for technology is an interesting challenge given the rapidly changing environment -- so the task group focused on technology predictions for the next five years. Task group members believe that to implement the use of technology requires a revolutionary rather than an evolutionary approach; therefore the attached recommendations support this radical approach. If all recommendations cannot be implemented, it would be better to concentrate our efforts in specific areas (i.e. locations, subject area, levels) than to spread reduced resources across the entire district. Fifteen recommendations are presented along with the rationale for each. Recommendation 3 calls for the establishment of a Technology Steering Committee. This committee would include members from many stakeholder groups and provide a community perspective on various aspects of technology within the district. This committee would also be charged with developing policies for the implementation of board action resulting from the Schools of the Future process.
