Night
School, District 4J’s longest running alternative education
program, offers a supplementary, alternative program for high
school students up to 21 years of age who seek to recover
credits toward a regular high school diploma. The program
provides a combination of academic, individualized instruction
in Language Arts, Social Studies, Health, Government, Science,
Economics, and Math (including General Math, Pre-Algebra,
Algebra I and II, and Geometry). Students may carry a maximum
load of four academic subjects each term.
Instructors are committed to working with students on issues
of self-esteem and personal responsibility. Night School instructors
strive to achieve a personal relationship with students and
deal directly with issues of behavior, chemical dependency,
social skills and interpersonal relations.
Night School is designed to supplement, not replace, academic
classes available in day school. To be eligible for the Night
School program, a student must be enrolled in one of the district’s
high schools, be credit deficient or potentially academically
ineligible, and be referred by a high school counselor. |
