Other Activities
Extra-Curricular Student Activities
School Socials
There
are three school socials every school year. These events
features a variety of activities designed for students to practice social
skills and have fun while increasing their positive bonding to school. Activities
may include such things as craft-making, games, and of course dancing while
a live DJ spins tunes. We encourage all students to participate.
School Play
Each
March students prepare a school play. They construct the sets, apply make-up,
make costumes, act and stage hands, and act-up (surprize). The show must
go on! Plays performed have included: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,
The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, We
are the Dream, Blue Horses, and Shakespeare to Go!
River Walk
At
the beginning of every school year it is the tradition of all Kelly students
to participate in a combined fitness walk and fund raiser. Students get monetary pledges from family members, neighbors, staff members,
and friends. Then by Homerooms, they walk from Kelly down to Alton Baker
Park along with their teachers and parent volunteers. There they take a break
with a free barbeque lunch (food is donated by community businesses). Then
comes the long walk back to school. After all the pledge money is turned
in, students get to celebrate by attending the RiverWalk Party - a great
evening fun event, with miniature golf, karaoke, pizza, and (of course) a
dance.
The money students raise is split three ways 1) in support of their various student social activities throughout the school year (dances, speakers, field trips, etc.), 2) in support of classroom learning activities (supplies, materials, etc.), and 3) as a reward the staff members who organized the event by giving them extra school program resources. We appreciate the participation of our community in making our school a great place for learning.
Friendship Week
Friendship
Week is a series of activities planned by our Student Council. The goals
are to encourage and celebrate friendships, for students to have a good time
together, to practice their growing social skills, and to feel positive about
being in school. This year, as in past years, every day of the week is a
special dress-up occasion. The culminating activity was a shortened schedule
on Thursday, with a variety of fun activities to choose from in the late
afternoon, including a dance. A big sign announces Friendship Week activities
like rose and candygram sales, as well as "wierd dress-up day."
Athletics
Students
may choose to participate in track and field in the spring.
The fee is $50. A physical is required before participation (click here for the form).
The Eugene School District believes that the purpose of interscholastic athletics is to have fun, maintain and improve high standards of conduct, competition and friendly relations with visiting schools.
All spectators, no matter what their personal feelings of loyalty may be to one or the other teams in these contests should reflect an attitude of sportsmanship. All persons attending athletic contests have a right to be free from insult, intimidation and harassment.
BEST - After-School Programs

Cooking, ceramics, cheer, juggling, watercolor, web design, and more!
Kelly Middle Schools has joined together with River Road Parks to bring the after school activities to Kelly. This after-school program aims at helping Kelly students succeed in academics. In addition to extra study time, the program also features enrichment classes such as art, cooking, drama, sports and more. Activities are taught by Kelly teachers, River Road Park instructors, local service agencies, arts agencies, and qualified individuals from the community.
After a study period, a nutritious snack is provided, then kids move on to the enrichment activities. Participating students who normally ride the school bus home after school at 3:30 p.m. ride school buses home after the last activity at 5:30 p.m.
Program offerings change every four to five weeks. Your student will bring home a flyer just before each session begins. Be sure to turn it in right away, because some classes fill early. The cost of the program is $25 per session for as many classes as students would like to take.
GANAS - After School Homework Club
This after-school program for students interested in Latino culture. Besides homework help, students may do fun activities like craft-making and dances. Spanish-speaking aides are available. In these photos, the Kelly students in the Ganas after school study group pose for a picture and University of Oregon MeCHA students work with the Kelly kids on their homework.
Student Groups
Student Council
Representatives are chosen by students.
Student Council assists in the planning of social, community, and school activities such as the canned food drive and other school side activities. Student Council members will receive ongoing training designed to enhance their leadership skills.
Student Council also provides leadership in various community service projects, such as Thanksgiving boxes of food collected for needy families and school pride projects.
Student Council Representatives and Alternates are chosen by their peers in morning core classes at the end of September/first of October.
Leadership roles are rotated among the representatives throughout the year
Students must maintain passing grade point averages in order to be active
on the council.
The Assistant Principal, Brooke Wagner, is the Student Council Advisor.
Kelly Greeters
Kelly Greeters are students who are the official greeters at Kelly.
Two students (a boy and a girl) are chosen from each homeroom. They orient all new students to their homeroom - meeting them in the Counseling Office, taking their picture and interviewing them for the “Welcome!” sheet that is then displayed in the hall, touring them through the building, and explaining the building expectations, procedures, and routines. Their goal is to get newcomers off to a good start at Kelly, and to help them feel comfortable and welcome. The Kelly Greeters students often act as adult greeters for adults for special occasions at Kelly.
