Many years ago libraries provided drawers full of cards to help
patrons find the right book. Today, with library automation systems,
computers are used to locate the right materials. You still need
to have the name of an author, a title, a subject OR a keyword of
the book(s) you need.

Using the Web-Based Library Catalog
|
Step 1- Opening LibNet from
the Lancer Library Web Page
The first step is to go to the Lancer
Library Web Page. There is a blue box near the top of
the page where you'll see "Click
here to find a book".
Step 2 - Choosing the best search
type
This screen allows you to choose the kind of search you will do. If
you know the exact TITLE
or AUTHOR of the item
you are looking for, select one of these. If you are looking for items
on a particular subject, it is usually easier to do a KEYWORD
search than a SUBJECT search. You will get some items that have nothing
to do with your topic but a SUBJECT search requires knowing the exact
word or phrase the library uses to name your topic. EXPERT SEARCHING
does not give you the spelling help the other search choices give you,
but it does allow you to search using more than one term at a time.

Once you have selected the type of search
you want to do the search screen will be next. Note there are several
hints included on the search screen. These will be very helpful to you.

Step 3 - Getting the list of
items available in the library.

Step 4 - Getting more information
Notice that the titles of the books found are linked. If you want to
get more information about a book just click on the title.
Step 5 - Reading "the
record".
This is the information you get when you click on the title. It is useful
to know just what information is where on the record. The information
in green is an explanation of some of the fields in the record.
Step 6 - Getting the book
Write down the call number and go to the correct shelf
in the library to find the book. If you don't know how to do this, go
to Locating Information/Library organization
or ask a librarian for assistance.
