An encyclopedia can be one
book, but is usually a set of books. Each book is called a volume.
Encyclopedias tell about important people, places and things. It will
cover a little bit about every topic. An encyclopedia will probably
have photographs and drawings, and often has charts and maps.
|
How is an encyclopedia organized?
An encyclopedia is usually arranged in alphabetical order by topic.
For example, information on apples, apes
and astonauts would be in the "A"
volume.
Where do I find an encyclopedia?
Look for encyclopedias in the reference section in REF 030 or in the
non-fiction section in 030. In some libraries they may be located in their
own section.
How do I use an encyclopedia?
Look up the subject that you need information about. Also check at the
end of the article for related sources, study questions, an outline of
the article or other useful information.
If you don't find your subject in the volume or for more information
go to the index, usually the last volume. The topics listed will show
you other topics to look up and in which volume to look.
