  1. Defining the Task
  2. Locating the Information
  3. Selecting and Analyzing Information
  4. Organizing and Synthesizing Information
  5. Creating and Presenting Information
  6. Evaluating the Process

Researching is not a straight-forward step-by-step process. In the process of completing a research project, all of the steps should be continuously reviewed and revised. Students learn when they identify a pitfall and then go back to refine a step.

Research is a circular process in which the student adjusts their plan as they move through the process. This drawing represents how the process works.

Click on each step for questions to ask yourself in evaluating the six steps.
