The purpose of this position is to assist in the daily operation and organization of the school library media program under the training and supervision of the school librarian. This list of tasks assumes a full time position filled with a selected, qualified person. Clerical library support staff shall not be expected to assume responsibilities expected of certified librarians since they are not prepared either by training or experience and are not certified to do so.
1. Implements efficient office procedures.2. Processes (does not select) new books, periodicals, and nonprint materials.
3. Assists in entering data for the online catalog.
4. Maintains data (student and materials) for the online catalog throughout the school year.
5. Assists with the circulation, shelving and storage of all library books, text materials, audio-visual materials, hardware and software.
7. Assists with annual inventories, maintenance and withdrawal of materials.
8. Assists in preparing instructional materials, exhibits, and displays.
9. Assists in the instruction of information retrieval systems and the use of appropriate equipment.
10. Assumes responsibility for student supervision (not instruction) as needed.
11. Participates in work-related support training and activities.
12. Helps maintain an attractive and inviting school library environment.
13. Promotes a positive relationship with students, staff and community.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
The purpose of this position is to assist in the daily operation and organization of the school technology program. This list of tasks assumes a full-time position filled with a selected, qualified person.
1. Installs and maintains computers, drives, printers, and other peripherals.2. Installs and maintains operating systems, menus, and authorized software on the school's computers.
3. Maintains the equipment for the library's automated circulation and catalog system.
4. Installs and maintains all other software updates on school computer equipment.
5. Maintains the security of the school's hardware and software.
6. Informs staff of routine maintenance procedures to be followed.
7. Maintains accurate records of all maintenance, inventory, and security measures associated with the school's hardware.
8. Maintains a set of passwords and accounts for the school's computers.
9. Provides assistance in the use of the school's hardware and related audio-visual technology.
10. Supervises students under the direction of a certified staff member to perform some of these tasks.
The purpose of this position is to provide periodic support to the operation and organization of the school library under the training and supervision of the school librarian.
Adult volunteers come with a variety of experiences and competencies. The library media specialist should take these into consideration as the volunteer is given assignments. The librarian should learn not only what a volunteer can do, but also their expectations and interests.
1. Assists with checkout of materials to students.2. Prepares bulletin boards and displays.
3. Repairs or mends books and other media.
4. Shelves books and other materials.
5. Reads shelves.
6. Processes new materials.
7. Answers basic directional questions.
8. Performs basic clerical tasks.
