Volunteering in Eugene School District 4J
Volunteers are always welcome and needed at all schools. Contact the school where you would like to volunteer to discuss your interests and opportunities at the school. Many volunteers work 1-3 hours per week; others help intermittently.
Examples of volunteer opportunities in schools
- Classroom help
- Library assistance
- Field trip help
- Tutoring students in math, science, foreign languages, etc.
- Career Center assistance (high schools)
- Pack and label newsletters for mailing
- Middle School Mentors: Meet with the same student once a week for lunch at the school
- Literacy Partners: Help middle school students improve their reading skills. Work with one student, once a week. Training provided.
- Sell bus passes, hand out forms at high school registration, take tickets at events
SMART — Start Making a Reader Today (call 726-3302)
- Read to elementary school students for 1 hour each week
- SMART school coordinator provides coaching and schedules

- Sponsored by the Oregon Children’s Foundation
OASIS Tutoring Program (volunteers 50 years-old or older)
- Tutor an elementary school student for one hour a week to improve language and reading skills. Training provided.
