North Eugene High School is a comprehensive high school with a rigorous academic program complemented by acclaimed elective offerings. The NEHS core programs of study are designed to meet high standards and culminate in Advanced Placement college credit classes in English Language, English Composition, Calculus, Computer Programming, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, American History, Spanish and French. In addition, our International High School and Japanese Immersion programs are cohesive learning communities where students stay together during 4 years of challenging, integrated course work. A new smaller learning community, the Academy of Peace, Justice and Human Rights, debuted in the 2002-03 school year for incoming 9th grade students. Students from North excel in elective classes such as Drama, Choir, Band, Photojournalism, Drawing and Painting, Digital Yearbook Publication, Ceramics, Radio, Technical Writing, Wood and Metals Projects, Psychology, and Sociology. Many Junior and Seniors at North integrate their academic and elective interests to earn a Certificate of Advanced Mastery (CAM). CAM programs include student internships or student-run businesses like the North Eugene Manufacturing Company, Northside Catering, the North Preschool and our school newspaper, the Caledonian. North's growing English Language Learner population is served by a spectrum of classes to improve students academic and social transition.
