Jefferson is dedicated to being a safe and inclusive school community committed to academic excellence, youth leadership and innovative programs. The multicultural/international language arts and social studies block is taught from more than one perspective. Both science and math are three year programs. Jefferson offers a strong explore/elective program which includes art, movement and physical education, drumming, technology, video, choir, band, drama, second language, and life skills. Students can develop leadership skills in student government, cultural clubs, community service clubs, performance (band, choir, orchestra, taiko drum and drama), student newspaper, and news video. Students can also participate in planting and harvesting a school garden, restoring wetlands, working with elders and other volunteers. Jefferson staff believes education should be expansive and democratic, inspiring full participation of all students.
