Spencer Butte invites students to a climate of excellence in academics, the arts, athletics, and other student activities. Students in this comfortable, small-school setting choose from a variety of highly acclaimed programs: in the performing and fine arts (two orchestras, three bands, choir, drama and fine arts); in second languages (beginning and advanced classes in Spanish and daily buses to South Eugene High School for Japanese and German). Technology includes a well-equipped and busy computer lab and the elective, "On The Air," provides one of the few middle schools in the nation to have live radio broadcasts developed and broadcast by students. Spencer Butte, one of the first schools to declare itself a Racism Free Zone, now commits to a Harassment & Racism Free Zone where students and the school community dedicate themselves to creating a climate that celebrates diversity and student success.
