The decision came after a public process that started in October with the formation of a citizen/staff School Closure, Consolidation and Replacement Committee. The committee's assignment was to study school closure and come up with a list of possible schools to close as early as fall 2001, and another list for long-term closure options. The committee met most Mondays from mid-October through mid-February, when it submitted a list of closure options to 4J Superintendent George Russell. The superintendent then studies the feasibility of actual closures, and recommended to the Eugene School Board that Bailey Hill and Whiteaker elementaries close for fall 2001.
There are no plans to convene the School Closure, Consolidation and Replacement Committee during the 2001-02 school year.
Meeting minutes, reports and recommendations from throughout the process can
