Fragile Brain Conference - Jensen Learning Corporation

A team of 18 teachers and administrators from the five South area elementary schools attended the 3 day Fragile Brain Conference, February 23-25, 2004, put on by Jensen Learning Corporation in San Diego, California.

The description of the conference says: "This comprehensive, survey program gives you a succinct, concise overview of the things that prevent children from learning. You'll learn the causes, the symptoms, the latest brain research and most importantly, what to do next. That's right, you get concrete, practical, specific to-dos that can turn a borderline student into one who has a good chance to succeed. "

Learning challenges for children and their teachers include:

  1. Attention Deficit Disorder (AD/ADHD)
  2. Auditory Processing Deficits
  3. Autism and Asperger's
  4. Cognitive Deficits, Fetal Alcohol, Delayed Development
  5. Depression (Bipolar, Manic, SAD, Dysthymia)
  6. Drug Abuse: Alcohol, Cocaine, Meth, Ecstasy, Marijuana, and more
  7. Sensory Integration Disorders, Hyperactivity
  8. Learned Helplessness, Demotivation, Apathy
  9. Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder
  10. Dyslexia

On returning from the conference, each team will work with their colleaagues to share learning from the conference. (Click here to see brain conference learning implementation at Parker-Eastside Elementary Schools.)
