K-12 Learning
Communities
Leadership for learning, building relationships and learning about
technology, change, diversity, brain research, best instructional
practices, distributed leadership, and time management. Goal to improve
student learning. North, South, Sheldon and Churchill Regions.
Educational Leadership Improvement Tool
Members of the LEAD team working with the University of Oregon developed a tool that can be used to help administrators determine the areas in which they need to grow. It can also be used as an evaluation tool. It is unique in that it includes a measure for cultural competence and also has a developmental scaler that can be used by both new and seasoned administrators.
Principal Mentors
Selected retired principals meet weekly with newly appointed principals their first year in District 4J. They are available 24/7 for consultation on the phone. In the second year of their principal positions, they meet twice monthly with their same mentor.
Critical Friends Training
Administrative Cohort members have been facilitating the use of protocols for Critical Friends
Groups in nineteen schools, targeting ways to improve student work.
Administrative Subs
Teachers who have their administrative license are funded to work in buildings when building principals
are attending leadership activities.
Minority Recruitment
A high priority for the school board, Wallace LEAD Grant and for the
4J human resource department. The school board has authorized early
hires to facilitate more diversity.
LEAD Project Team
Each region is represented by a secondary and elementary administrator
to help plan and coordinate Wallace funds and activities, other members
include representatives from ESS and the University of Oregon.
Data Information
Dennis Urso, District 4J and Jerry Tendal, University of Oregon are
working on baseline data for the project.
Administrator in Residence
Four former Wallace Administrators in Residence are presently administrators in the district; two are at other districts. These positions were hired to increase the diversity potential at the administrative level. There are currently two Administrators in Residence in the district.
Special Assistant to the Superintendent - Equity-Diversity
District 4J combined funds with the Wallace grant to fund a 1.0 Equity-diversity position for the district.
