SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT GOALS:

Goal 1: TEACHING AND LEARNING - improve academic achievement for all students by focusing staff develoopment and efforts on research based best practices of teaching and learning.

Goal 2: RELATIONSHIPS - School Climate - continue to build positive, caring relationships and support the North Region Community.

Goal 3: CURRICULUM - support a rich, broad curriculum for Madison Middle School Students.

Goal 4: TECHNOLOGY - increase the use of technology to assist learning.

Goal 5: DIVERSITY - improve staff and student body awareness about diversity; facilitate positive and caring relationships between the diverse school population concerning social economic status, race, ethnicity, culture, language, disabilities, and the physically and mentally disabled.

GOAL ACTIVITIES:

Goal 1: TEACHING AND LEARNING

1) Follow Benchmark III Implementation Plan (improve student achievement on statewide assessment tests)- review data, do curriculum mapping, develop work samples, calendar work samples, administer assignments, assess using state scoring guides, record, verify with other teachers; develop practice strategies for tests, develop test taking strategies).

2) Continue articulation with Awbrey Park, Spring Creek, & Corridor Elementary Schools, and North Eugene High School.

3) Utilize district and other resources to support the above.

4) Continue support of the Read Every Day Program.

5) Continue developing and implementing a building TAG (Talented And Gifted) Program.

6) Curriculum development in all disciplines.

7) Adoption of standardized methods in curriculum delivery.

8) Implement and maintain the 5A's After School Program.

9) Create and implement a system for accelerating skills in reading and math using Plato.

10) Create and implement summer school.

11) Implement Staff Study Teams: Best Practice/Brain Research; EBS (Effective Behavior Support); Diversity; Technology - utilize ideas to implement for state of the art program in the new facility planning.

12) Implement online state assessment testing (TESA).

Goal 2: RELATIONSHIPS

1) Provide a new teacher program and continue to support returning staff.

2) Conduct Fall and Winter staff retreats.

3) Provide staff social activities.

4) Increase relationships with our elementary schools and North Eugene High School through articulation: 5th-6th grade teams, and 8th-9th grade teams.

5) Encourage staff to participate in student activities.

6) Continue the Madison Pride Program.

7) Implement and evaluate EBS (Effective Behavior Support) and Second Step programs.

8) Continue relationships with Pacific University, NCC, and implement U of O teacher and administrative training programs.

9) Implement a fully functioning student council with Homeroom representatives and other interested students; assistant principal and teacher advisors.

10) Conduct a new student orientation.

11) Conduct a fall/winter student retreat.

12) Continue home visits for incoming 6th graders.

13) Support Homeroom.

14) Increase support services through "Safer Schools" grant: continue Crime Prevention Specialist position; continue Prevention Specialist position; U of O Family Center/Parenting Consultant position.

15) Increase parent involvement: continue monthly parent meetings and a monthly newsletter; continue a parent volunteer coordinator; continue efforts of parent fundraising.

Goal 3: CURRICULUM

1) Continue to offer a variety of classes; develop new courses.

2) Build and maintain a master schedule to accomodate.

1) Continue to provide technical support for building technology resources.

2) Seek resource acquisition to support technology and media.

3) Continue to integrate techno9logy into curriculum and instruction.

4) Maintain and develop school and teacher web pages.

Goal 5: DIVERSITY

1) Maintain and continue support and learning regarding tolerance and the "Discrimination Free Zone."

2) Continue "Awareness of disabilitie" trainings by Madison's Learning Center in Homeroom.

3) Continue "Project REACH" in 8th grade.

4) Estabilish diversity inservice for staff.

5) The staff will attend an inservice with Pedro Noguera, with topics: youth violence, race relations within schools, potential impact of school choice and vouchers on urban public schools, factors contribuiting to student achievment and secondary issuses resulting in desegration of public schools.

6) Continue and establish more emphasis on school activities which promote the empathetic learning of diversity and multi-cultural awareness, to include: assemblies, "mini lunch assemblies," and field trips.

7) Establish Madison Awards which promote the understanding of diversity.

8) Continue to build our library resources which promote the understanding of diversity.

9) Establish more emphasis on school displays which promote the understanding of diversity.

10) Continue the Natives Club, and continue to enhance our ongoing academic, social and emotional support for our Native American population.

11) Establish a Latino support club, and continue to enhance our ongoing academic, social and emotional support for our Latino students and parents.

12) Continue ongoing support for ELL (English Language Learner) students and their parents.

13) Continue support and development of cultural studies and Spanish.

14) Implement a Staff Diversity Team and activities to include: gather and study ideas to implement for future state of the art program/facility.
