Asian Celebration - Lane County Fairgrounds

Saturday and Sunday February 20 and 21, 2010

YG Kindergarten, Second and Fifth Grade open the Asian Celebration on Saturday morning with songs, dance and taiko!  Please check your Thursday Folders for more information.

YG is “Outstanding”!

Yujin Gakuen Elementary School was one of only 392 Oregon schools to receive an overall rating of “Outstanding” on the eleventh annual Oregon School Report Card.  In 1999 the Oregon Legislature passed the law calling for each school and district in the state to receive a report card.  This achievement reflects the talent and commitment of our entire school community - students, staff and families.  Way to go YG!

Oshogatsu

Our very first YG Oshogatsu Celebration (Japanese New Year), the first week back to school from winter break, was a wonderful success.  Arigato to all who came.  More than 300 participated in the games and demonstrations in our classrooms and there was always a line (but worth it!) for the food booths in the cafeteria.  Arigato to all of our great volunteers, staff, and PTO for their contribution of time and energy to make Oshogatsu such a fun event for our children.  Everything was done with a smile.  Events like this remind us of the unique community that is YG.  It’s not just about learning another language, it’s about learning from other cultures and from each other.  Again, Arigato Gozaimasu!

Keep Student Pick-Up Safe

To reduce traffic on Silver Lane and in the driveway during student pick-up, please remember to use the east parking lot.  Just tell your kids to meet you along the covered sidewalk by the parking lot.  There is less traffic in the parking lot and your kids can stay dry during this wet weather.  Drivers are also encouraged to park your cars and get out to meet your kids, which is often faster than waiting in line in the pause parking areas.  Thank you!

Yearbooks

Parents, now is the time to order your 2010 Yujin Gakuen yearbook.  Order forms are in this week’s Thursday envelope.  Yearbooks are pre-selling for $12.  Please make checks out to YGPTO.  Get your order in TODAY.  Deadline to purchase your child’s yearbook is March 1, 2010.

Advertising and message space is available.

1/8 page = $10         1/2 page = $40

1/4 page = $20         Full page = $80

Got Pictures? The yearbook committee needs your hi-resolution photos!  did you take any pictures at any of our school events like the YG picnic, Aki Matsuri, Oshogatsu?  Do you have candid shots from class activities or field trips, or photos of the entire class?  If so please submit them for possible incusion in the yearbook.  There are two ways to submit your photos.  If you just have a few please email them to yg2010yearbook@yahoo.com.  If you have a lot of photos, please copy them to a CD/DVD and deliver them to Diane in the office.  Please be sure to include class and grade information.
